How does solar reduce my daytime electricity bill?
Solar can power your home directly and store surplus energy in the battery. This reduces grid purchases when generation matches your needs; savings depend on usage, system size and your local tariff.
See daytime supply →Can I use solar energy after sunset?
Yes, if it was stored in the battery during the day. Stored solar energy can reduce evening grid purchases until the battery reaches its reserve or its power limit.
See evening supply →What happens during a power cut?
For Caribbean homes planning around outages, a correctly configured backup system can isolate from the grid and supply selected essentials using available solar and battery energy. Runtime depends on charge and loads; an empty battery and insufficient sunlight cannot sustain backup. Supply fluctuations and sensitive appliances should be discussed during the site assessment.
See outage backup →What if the battery reaches its reserve?
With the grid available, it can supply your home when stored energy is reserved and solar is unavailable. Reaching the reserve does not necessarily mean the battery is empty. Grid electricity still incurs normal charges.
See grid supply →Can solar and the grid power my home together?
In a compatible hybrid system, solar can supply part of your demand and the grid can cover the shortfall. This still reduces grid purchases. Our example keeps the battery in reserve; actual sharing depends on settings and available energy.
See solar + grid →Can the battery help when solar is not enough?
Yes, while usable charge and power are available. Solar and the battery can supply your home together, reducing grid demand. The grid may also contribute if supported by the configuration; this does not remove the system’s power limits.

Your property location, a recent electricity bill and the appliances you want to keep running during an outage are a useful starting point. If available, photos of your roof and installation space can help explain your needs. Leave out account numbers and other sensitive details that are not needed for your inquiry.
Do I need an account to get started?
No. You can use the homepage calculator and start a consultation without signing in. For an inquiry, provide an email address where our team can reach you.
Can I include photos with my question?
When the Contact us message form is available, choose Add photos to open the photo editor. It accepts JPG, PNG and WebP images and compresses them before sending. If you use the consultation form instead, tell us that you have photos to share with the team.
Ask a question →How do my daily habits affect solar savings?
Your routine affects how much solar energy you use at home and how much electricity you still buy from the grid. Running suitable appliances during sunny hours can help you use solar power directly. If most of your electricity use is after sunset, battery storage becomes more important. Share when you normally use air conditioning, cooking appliances and other main loads so we can match the system to your routine.
Can I choose a smaller battery if I mainly use electricity in the day?
Often, yes. When your main appliances run during sunny hours, solar can supply them directly, so you may need less battery storage for later. We still consider your evening and overnight use, the appliances you want to keep running during a power cut and how long you need backup.
Should I consider a larger battery if I use most electricity at night?
Usually, yes. A larger battery can store more daytime solar energy for the evening and overnight. We size it around the appliances you use, how long they run and the reserve you want for outages. Your panels also need to generate enough surplus during the day to recharge it; a bigger battery alone does not generate more electricity.
How do panel direction and roof slope affect solar generation?
They affect how much sunlight the panels receive and when they produce electricity. East-facing panels tend to produce earlier in the day, while west-facing panels tend to produce later. Our engineers assess your roof's direction, slope and available space alongside your electricity use to plan a suitable layout.
Will shade or cloudy weather reduce solar output?
Yes. Trees, nearby buildings and cloud cover can reduce the sunlight reaching your panels. Shade can move across the roof during the day and through the year, so our engineers consider it when planning the layout. A battery can help cover a shortfall while usable charge and power are available; the grid can also contribute when connected.
Is the biggest solar and battery system always the best choice?
No. A suitable system balances your daytime and overnight use, roof space, expected solar generation, backup needs and budget. Extra panels or battery capacity add value when you can use the additional energy or storage. We use your chosen package as a starting point and recommend adjustments that suit your home.
Find a suitable configuration →Which location is the savings calculator for?
This calculator provides a planning scenario for homes in Dominica using a dated DOMLEC tariff reference. The November 2026 structure is not included; this is not a live tariff or a quotation. For a property in Antigua, use the Antigua calculator and its separate reference assumptions.
Explore the calculator →Which amount from my electricity bill should I use?
Use your monthly electricity charges only. Do not include overdue balances, water charges or other services. Move the bill slider on the homepage to the closest amount; there is no need to enter your monthly kWh.
Which DOMLEC tariff does the calculator use?
It uses existing base rates + September 2026 fuel, reviewed 8 Oct 2026. Base rates are EC$0.58/kWh for the first 50 kWh and EC$0.67/kWh thereafter, plus EC$0.4338/kWh fuel surcharge. VAT is 15% on base charges above 150 kWh; fuel surcharge is VAT-free. Rates are held constant. The new tariff announced for 1 November 2026 is not included because its full residential table has not yet been verified. The question mark beside the bill slider provides sources.
Are the savings shown guaranteed?
No. The calculator assumes an 80% bill reduction to provide a planning scenario, not a quotation. Actual savings depend on the final system, electricity usage, site conditions and applicable tariff. Discuss your property with our team before making a purchase decision.
Is the suggested investment a final quote?
No. The budget uses the starting price of the Basic, Plus or Premium package recommended for your estimated home electricity use. Simple payback is that starting price divided by estimated annual savings, using the calculator’s bill-saving assumption. A higher final price or lower savings increases the payback period; financing, maintenance and replacements are excluded. Request an assessment to confirm the configuration, included work and final quote.
Discuss your project →How should I read the backup time?
The displayed backup time assumes a full battery and a constant 1 kW average load, with no solar contribution during the outage. Actual runtime changes with the appliances in use. The preview is not a guarantee that every appliance in your home can run together.
